Jadis grand empire, le Cambodge est marqué dans sa chaire par son histoire tragique. De 1975 à 1979, l’utopie meurtrière du régime Khmer Rouge emporte plus du quart de la population. Quarante ans après, le pays renaît de ces cendres entre nécessité de se confronter au passé et désir d’avenir. Dans ce pays de terre et d’eau, peuplé de génies, la vie s’apprécie toujours dans l’instant présent. Mais derrière leur légendaire sourire, les Cambodgiens sont aussi un peuple fier et résistant. Dans une société dominée par la même figure politique depuis près de 35 ans, où toute contestation est réprimée, ils s’élèvent pour dénoncer le népotisme, protéger une vallée menacée, ou exprimer leur créativité.
